Katherina von Bora
Opera for 4 soloists, choir and wind orchestra
This opera tells the dramatic story of Luther’s wife Katherina von Bora. It starts off with a runaway coach driving through a dark forest. Katharina is being thrown out of the coach and sees her life flashing by: her young years in the monastery, the flight from the monastery, the meeting and marriage with Luther, the birth of her children and the motherhood, the death of Luther and finally her own death, which gets a universal meaning. The opera was premiered on the 17th of October 2010 in the prestigious Gewandhaus Leipzig by an impressive cast accompanied by the Sächsische Bläserphilharmonie conducted by Thomas Clamor. Afterwards there were successful performances in Thorgau and Nimbschen
